Gilbert AZ 2014 Fall Carnival
Posted on October 15, 2014Enjoy one full weekend of fun and thrill seeking rides at Crossroad Park, located just off Santan Freeway 202 and Ray Road (google map). Come out and enjoy exciting carnival to Town with rides for the whole family. Enjoy rides such as the Ferris wheel, the berry go round, tilt-a-whirl and much more. There will also be plenty of challenging carnival games to win prizes and great food to try.
Event Dates and Times Fall Carnival:
October 16th - 5pm-10pm
October 17th - 5pm-10pm
October 18th - Noon-10pm
October 19th - Noon-8pm
Parking - Event parking will be available at Crossroads Park on Greenfield Road/Knox. Handicapped accessible parking will be available just south of the carnival rides.
Admission fee - No, admission is free for all ages. Activity, game and ride tickets/wristbands will be available for purchase at the event.
Who can attend? - Everyone can attend, and activities are available for all ages. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parent.

Gilbert Named 20th Best City to Live in America in 2014
Posted on September 18, 2014Gilbert, Arizona has been named the 20th Best City to Live In America by 24/7 Wall St.; the only Arizona city on the list of America’s 50 Best Cities to Live. The study reviewed 550 U.S. cities with populations over 65,000, comparing them in seven major categories: crime, economy, education, housing, environment, leisure, and infrastructure.
Within each category, specific data points contributed to category ranking. For example, the economy category included median household income, cost of living, employment growth between 2011 and 2013, and the 2013 unemployment rate. Formula used to weight each category and convert each category rank to a meta rank ranging from 0-100. Crime, economy, education, and housing received full weights, while environment, leisure, and infrastructure received half weights.

There are several different areas for different types of dogs and activities. "Timid Dog Area" for smaller breeds or puppies. "Fenced Dog Park Area" for run and play. "Wet Dog Area" is a Dog Waterpark, it for dogs to wade and swim in and even a dock where dogs can run and jump into the water.
Dog Park Amenities:

- Separate use areas for active and timid dogs

Dog Park Rules:

- Puppies using the park must be older than 4 months

- Owners are responsible to cover holes or turf damage caused by pets
- Children running or chasing after dogs is prohibited
- Park users and dog owners assume all risks related to the dog park

The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is a 110 acre resource developed for groundwater recharge. outdoor recreation and educational opportunities.
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is best known for its birds. Over 200 species of birds can be seen throughout the year. There are 4.5 miles of walking trails, and fishing at the recreation lake at Water Ranch. This unique area was designed to utilize recycled water to create community wetland wildlife sanctuaries for recreation, education, and research. The Riparian Institute also offers programs and classes to the public, like birds walks, kids camps and programs, and public viewings at the new Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory.
What is Water Ranch?
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is a water recycling facility for the Town of Gilbert. Gilbert treats its waste water, and then pipes it into the basins here where it replenishes the underground water supply. The water can then be pumped out of the ground to support the water needs of the homes and businesses in Gilbert. This system, then, creates an opportunity for habitats for many kinds of wildlife and plant life that you might not see in other desert areas.
Public Programs at The Riparian Preserve:
- Desert Rivers Audubon offers free Family Bird Walks every 3rd Saturday, October through March, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Dragonfly Ramada.
- Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory.The observatory is open every Friday and Saturday evening at nightfall, September through June.
- Little Nature Explorers. Provide opportunities for preschoolers to grow strong minds, bodies, and spirits through the nurturing of our natural world exploring and discovering natue.
- Tours of the Preserve. Learn about the formation of the Preserve, and the birds and plants of this riparian habitat. A donation of $5 is requested. every second and fourth Saturday, 10 am, October through April.
- Outdoor Learning Project. Learn about the habitat, wildlife, people and activities that relate to The Riparian Preserve

The Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory (GRCO) is located at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert AZ 85234, east of the Southeast Regional Library (southeast corner of Greenfield and Guadalupe Roads). The observatory is open every Friday and Saturday evening at nightfall, September through June. The Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory is owned by the Town of Gilbert and operated by the Riparian Institute.

The observatory houses a 16-inch diameter Meade, modified Richey-Cretien scope, guided by a Paramount ME computer controlled German equatorial mount slaved to The Sky professional computer program.
Open to the Public: Friday and Saturday nights from sunset (weather permitting) until 9.30pm. Children under 15 welcome with an adult.
Admission is FREE: The is no admission cost. However as a public service donation is accepted and completely voluntary.

The Town of Gilbert operates four public pools including Greenfield Pool, Mesquite Aquatic Center, Williams Field Pool and Perry Pool. The pools are typically open Monday through Friday and are CLOSED on Sunday.
The pool offers a wide variety of cool activities that include swimming lessons, public swimming sessions, youth swim and dive teams, and more! Each aquatics facility has a waterslide or play feature, shade ramadas, a concession stand and/or vending machines, and diving boards for your enjoyment.
